Craving something sweet?

We all get those cravings, you know the "I just need something sweet, anything sweet" cravings. For a lot of us, giving into these cravings is our major barrier keeping us between where we are & where we'd like to be. But this doesn't have to be the case. If you are smart about what you put into your mouth, you will be pleasantly surprised at how effortless being fit & healthy can be.
This is one of my go-to snacks when I'm craving something sweet but don't want to indulge. Try it the next time you feel a craving coming on.

{the pic doesn't make it look as good as it tastes!}
Fruit Parfait

I usually make a bowl for Tyler & I so there's no leftover fruit cut to just go bad.

Makes 2 servings
approximately 200 calories

1 Banana
1 Apple
4 giant strawberries {costco} or 8 small
Handful of grapes
Handful of berries
{insert fruit here - be creative!}
1 - 6 oz container of Dannon Light & Fit yogurt

Be creative with the different flavors - The other night we tried Toasted Coconut Vanilla & it was delicious!
When I use just plain vanilla yogurt, I sprinkle cinnamon into the bowl and mix it all up - It's so YUMMY!

Go a step above & try greek yogurt for more protein!

  1. I'm sure Tim will want to try this. We often find ourselves craving sweet things and we don't keep sweet things around the house. We've found our favorite healthy snacks are: wheat thins with low fat cottage cheese (courtesy: you), apple with small spoonful of natural peanut butter (adam's brand is our fave), or edamame - just plain is YUMMY! If we force ourselves to just make these snacks (instead of driving down the street for ice cream), we find our cravings gone and our snacking appetite filled.

  2. Greek Yogurt really is amazing once you get past the kinda weird texture...which is easy if you add in fruit, or chopped up nuts! It is my favorite new breakfast!

  3. This is a fantastic idea! Sometimes Shane and I combine organic granola with vanilla yogurt and add cinnamon on top, but I really love the idea of the berries.
    What is your take on drinking Crystal Light? I know I don't drink enough water in the day, but if I put some Crystal Light in my water bottle I drink it quickly (plus it satisfies my sweet tooth!).

  4. I love to add a tbsp of Kashi GoLean Crunch in place of granola. It gives you the crunch without the high sugar, fat & cal.
    Kenzie - I am not a big advocate on Crystal Light. I think it is okay in moderation so like no more than once a day IF THAT. Especially be careful if you are consuming other things that contain artificial sweetener like Aspartame. My advice to you (& I'll prob make a post about it eventually) is to go to a health food store (most should have them) but there are vials you can buy that are flavoring made with Stevia which is a plant based sweetener that is not artificial. They have ALL kinds you can even imagine - go try one out! It'll help you drink more water without the possible damage from aspartame.
